ABOUT US
Hi all! We are Miguel y Eva We live at 15 km from Vigo Airport, in Pontevedra, Galicia (North West Spain). We are located at the wonderful Ría of Vigo, with its famous Cies Islands, part of the Atlantic Islands National Park.
We are passionate for Nature in general, and specially for the so peculiar cat breed “Skogkatt”. This is the Scandinavian name for the Norwegian Forest Cat.
After some years knowing about this breed we decided to share our lives with these cats. We started to visit some breeders before choose our first stud: Irresistible de la Zarina*ES by the lovely temper.
We are very grateful with Carmen & Maribel, from La Zarina*ES Cattery, for their advices.
After 2 years attending with our male to shows in Spain and also abroad, meeting more NFO breeders and learning as much and as good as possible, we decided to look for a female and start with our breeding program.
The product of the accumulated experience, a long wait and a seriously planned search was the arrival of F*Valkeana’s Alabama to our home. Alabama has done our dreams come true. She comes from France, form F*Valkeana’s Cattery, a very responsible and serious cattery.
Thank you very much, Sylvain & Valérie, from F*Valkeana’s Cattery (France) for your confidence and all your advices.
At that point, we started to looking for a 2nd female, with new genetics. We were being fans of S*Restless cats (Sweden) for a long time, and we waited for a litter with the best combination. The result couldn’t be better: our S*Restless Syriana became Junior Winner (JW) when she was just 6 months old, a record time!, 5 BIS in 5 shows. She obtained more good results and her win the 1st place Kitten-Junior at the Skogkatt of the Year 2007! Ranking of Norwegian Forest cat in Europe.
We are very grateful with Ulrica & Lars, from S*Restless Cattery, for let Syriana going so far away, for their confidence and their advices.
We also want to give our thanks to Edith & Carlos, from Jakobusland*ES Cattery, for their help and support in this adventure and their advices about responsible breeding.
And of course thank you very much to all our friends that share with us the same breeding philosophy.
Our goals as breeders are the following:
To breed cats as close to the standard as possible and fight for preserve this breed from genetic diseases (as PKD, HCM and others) testing our cats for them. As result of this, we look for healthy cats, big in size, with wild look but with gentle temper, which make them the best family company. This impressive cat was called the cat-dog, for its friendly temper with people, children and dogs.
Our cattery name is Vestvegr-ES*, (FIFé Cattery registration number: 1864). Vestvegr means “The West Route”, vets= west, vegr= way or route. We liked this name for its relation between Galicia and Scandinavian countries, from where the NFO comes.
The “Vestvegr” was the route that Vikings used to explore the West Atlantic territories. They reached for first time to Galicia on 844 AC. Other 3 more visits followed the first one, until year 1038 AC. After this, with the catholic conversion of the Scandinavians, the Vestvegr became a Pilgrim Route for all those Northern territories. The Vestvegr guided them to Jakobusland, so called Galicia at those times, and let them to visit St. Jakobus thumb.
Long time ago there were a relationship between Galicia and Scandinavia, and although at those times the intentions were more the invaders and conquerors ones, today we allow with pleasure to being conquered for this friendly and gentle Scandinavian cats.
